Onitsuka Tiger fans have a new silhouette to pay attention to. The brand’s new ROTEMIT™ sneaker pulls from 1980s indoor volleyball shoes, but the result lands closer to a shape experiment than straightforward retro revival.

At first glance, the construction stays familiar enough: nylon uppers, suede overlays, low-profile proportions. Then the sole changes everything. Ribbed gum rubber wraps up around the toe and heel, pushing the silhouette into something more exaggerated and slightly off-balance compared to most retro court sneakers right now.

The heel branding helps. Instead of standard sportswear typography, Onitsuka Tiger stamps the shoe with a Gothic-style “Tiger” script, which cuts through the cleaner upper more aggressively than expected.

The monochrome versions keep things clean, but the louder colourways — lilac, sage green, burgundy, hot pink — are where ROTEMIT™ gets more exciting.

They make the most sense styled against oversized tailoring, longer shorts, track pants, or intentionally off-balance proportions. Clean sportswear feels too safe here. ROTEMIT™ looks better when the styling pushes back a little.

The accompanying campaign follows the same mood: CRT televisions, ribbed socks, grainy indoor court imagery.

At the moment, most retro sneakers are trying to blend into wardrobes. ROTEMIT™ doesn’t entirely want to.
